Teachers

  • Miss Corelene

    Head Teacher

I moved to Hong Kong with my family in 1995 where I was first exposed to a multi-cultural environment and this gave me the opportunity to learn more about different cultures, new languages and meet friends from different ethnicities. This adjustment also gave me the chance to grow holistically as a person and helped me better interact with other people. Growing up in a big family, I have always looked up to my parents whom I consider my best teachers. They have taught me and my siblings the importance of education and how we should never stop learning each and every day.

After I completed my Bachelors Degree of Media Production from a University, I am a firm believer that effective communication is a vital life skill. I have always engaged in activities that helped develop my confidence and communication skills as I was growing up.

Though my earlier professional career started off in the sales and marketing industry, I have always been passionate about teaching, communicating and public speaking. In the past, I did my part time job to tutor kids who were interested in learning the English language, improve their speaking abilities and develop their confidence through public speaking. Besides, I did volunteer work and provided assistance to teachers to care for kids who were mentally and physically incapacitated. I was also given the opportunity to teach Sunday school classes to young women.

I am so grateful to have been given this privilege to be a part of Maple Tree Education Centre and I look forward to providing our students an interactive, fun and friendly learning environment.

  • Miss Becca

    Head Teacher Ocean Pride Branch

I was born and educated in UK with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree and TEFL Certificate. After my studies, I worked as a professional career coach for four years where I taught students of diverse background and mixed abilities.

My vision is to inspire those I meet to fulfil their potentials and achieve their goals. I believe everyone deserves an equal chance especially with children where their values and confidence are built from a young age.

For me, being in the educational field is more than just a job. Teaching and being able to make a positive impact in each other’s life is what I stand by. Therefore, as an English teacher, I bring huge passion, love and commitment to nurture each child individually.

In my free time, I like to travel, meet new people and learn new things to broaden my horizon!

  • Miss Rachel

I am originally from Australia. I hold a Bachelor of Education in English Language Education and a certificate in TESOL. Apart from being an English teacher for more than ten years, I am also an experienced drama teacher, playwright, dance choreographer and an author of children storybooks.

My love for the creative and performing arts has taken me on many different and amazing journeys along my career and has shaped me into becoming a more innovative and diversified teacher. I bring together my experience in different fields to create an all-rounded learning experience in the classroom.

It is my goal to ignite creativity, imagination and a love for the English language in my students through fun and interactive activities. I encourage my students to express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas in creative ways through reading, speaking, writing and drama.

My students love coming to English class because there is never a dull lesson. I make sure they have FUN while they are also LEARNING something interesting. I want my students to grow up with a desire for learning and a passion that will drive them to wherever their dreams may be.

  • Mr. Norman

I was born in Australia and my family moved to Hong Kong when I was six. Raised by parents of two different cultures, I was deeply fascinated by the dynamic atmosphere of Hong Kong since I was a child.

Teaching is no “piece of cake”. Simply feeding knowledge into children is not teaching. As teachers, we guide any learners to explore and discover a specific field, especially children. With the correct guidance, I have no doubt that they will have the courage, confidence and skills to explore the world on their own.

With over a year of experience tutoring over 700 students at different institutions,

I am capable of identifying learners’ linguistic needs and teaching accordingly. After acquiring CertTESOL, I am equipped with better methodologies and skills for learners from kindergarten to secondary students. I aim at enlightening children, including primary students and secondary ones with authentic methods in a contemporary context.

  • Miss Denise

I’m from America, I moved to Hong Kong in 2017. I have a Bachelor degree in Philosophy with minors in Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and Musical Studies. After I graduated from college, I worked at a level-one trauma hospital on the East Coast to delicately take care of our patients and patient's family every day. I’m grateful to have learned how to be with people using patience and understanding their needs.

My wonderful and precious experience with kids started from working at a summer camp at Boy's and Girl's Club of America in my college year. Kids are amazing. The best part was to find out that each child not only has a unique potential to succeed in their dream, but also has an amazing curiosity to learn by searching different subjects of their interests. We just need to help them unlock and wake up their potential to fly high and be successful. To my surprise, it was my first time to experience that I could influence my students positively to learn and be interested in learning.

Since I moved to Hong Kong, I have been tutoring young children and young adults in English. My students are from both international schools and local schools. I teach them skills on listening and speaking, as well as reading comprehension and writing. I try to understand their needs and weaknesses in order to best help them and encourage them to be confident in speaking a different language. I can make it fun for them to learn in an effective way and how to learn by themselves as a skill for their future studies.

  • Mr. Gabe

I was born and raised in Mexico, in a bicultural family; my mother’s family is from Chicago, Illinois, and my dad’s family lives in the northern part of Mexico, not too far away from the border with the USA.

Seven years ago, I was lucky enough to have a chance to start teaching English as a second language and Spanish for foreigners. It has become my career and I enjoy it very much.

During this time, I’ve come to learn that the easiest way to connect with students and to ensure teaching translates into learning, is approaching every lesson with humor. By taking serious subjects and dividing it into fun components, learners can not only understand everything faster but also have fun in the process.

I have a bachelor’s degree in architecture, and while I might not be using it to build dream houses, I’m still building dreams; after having complemented it with the necessary teacher training, of course. I believe the next step in my academic development will be obtaining a master’s degree in education. Education has become my life’s work.

  • Miss Krissie

I am a Canadian citizen, and I was born and raised in Hong Kong where I grew up speaking English as my first language. For my further studies, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Family Studies in Vancouver, Canada. With much experience in the field, I have taught children in various settings through private tutoring, group classes, educational play and more. Meanwhile, I have been teaching children of various ages for over six years and have gained plenty of skills, knowledge, and practice that continues to strengthen my passion.

My passion for teaching blossomed through my general love for children and strengthened after working as a Native English Teacher for local students. I am extremely devoted towards early childhood education as I believe our contributions as educators are directly responsible for our children’s foundations in becoming great leaders. It is in my best hopes to encourage students towards a pro-active and independent love for learning in every aspect. As a passionate educator, I strive to build strong relationships with my students, allowing them to lead their own learning experiences through personal interests while providing a reassuring and motivating learning environment.
